Brazil: Tradition, Invention – Marcel Gautherot
Marcel Gautherot – Brasil: Tradição, Invenção (Brazil: Tradition, Invention) is the biggest exhibition of the French photographer already exhibited in Brazil. The exhibition, at the Imperial Palace (RJ), brings together over 300 images produced throughout Gautherot’s career in Brazil.
From the 40s, Gautherot traveled throughout the country photographing historical buildings, folk festivals, handicrafts and folkloric activities in several Brazilian states as permanent collaborators of the National Historical and Artistic Patrimony Service (Sphan).
Over more than fifty years of activity in Brazil, it has produced a collection of more than 25,000 preserved photos by the Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS).
The exhibition is a partnership of IMS and Iphan under curatorship of Sergio Burgi and Samuel Titan Jr.
